Lube Tech, in conjunction with Social Venture Partners, awarded a generous grant of $25,000 to High School for Recording Arts. With this funding, HSRA is in the process of implementing a new program in design called Sweat Equity Enterprises. SEE is a non-profit organization founded by fashion designer Mark Ecko in order to teach design to high-school students through actual projects for real-world clients. Winning designs are manufactured and sold nationwide, and winning designers receive scholarships.

Lube Tech is a family-owned, Minnesota-based company that provides lubrication technology for companies like Polaris, Skidoo, ExxonMobil and Motorcraft, and will provide grants for two more years if the new design program proves successful. Lube Tech and its employees are also donating time, expertise and resources to help the young people of HSRA. HSRA students who have become involved in the SEE program will do some design work for the Lube Tech.

Lube Tech owners Chris and Marna Bame came to HSRA on Wednesday, April 23rd to present HSRA with the check. Also present were Tonny Heideman, who originally contacted HSRA about this opportunity, Rich Greig, and Eric Jackson of Lube Tech and Social Venture Partners.

HSRA is extremely moved by this community support and we look forward to developing our partnership with Lube Tech!

HSRA Jazz Combo’s Orchestra Hall Permormance

Posted by Mike Guille on April 18th, 2008

Hello Friends and Supporters,

Delfeayo Marsalis has invited the newly formed HSRA (High School for Recording Arts) Jazz Combo to perform a couple of songs during his “Tribute to Louis Armstrong” performance this Thursday, April 17th at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30PM.

This will be a very special performance for a number of reasons. First, this will be the first time HSRA students have performed publicly as a jazz ensemble. Second, the combo will be joined by two gifted horn players from the Walker West Music Academy (http://www.walkerwestmusicacademy.org/default.htm), a great musical training institute. And lastly, our students, Chantel and Shelby (vocals), Corey (piano), Versie (drums), Jamal (bass) and Bishop and Lost Causz (hype men), along with their Walker West colleagues are honored to be on the same stage and program as the great Mr. Marsalis and the all star group he has assembled to give tribute to the great jazz legend, Louis Armstrong. Prior to the performance, preeminent jazz historian Phil Schaap, curator of Jazz at Lincoln Center, will conduct a lecture and Q & A.

Please join us on this special evening. We hope to see all of our friends and supporters at this event.
